Trigger a HubSpot sequence automatically when a LinkedIn invitation is accepted

Learn how to automatically enroll contacts into a HubSpot sequence when a LinkedIn invitation is accepted, using HubSpot workflows and Hublead.

Overview

Automatically trigger a HubSpot sequence as soon as a prospect replies to one of your LinkedIn messages (info pulled by Hublead). The goal is to ensure the follow‑up process kicks off without any manual action.

What you get

  • Automatic enrolment into a sequence for every LinkedIn reply
  • Assigned to the correct owner
  • A repeatable process across the team/callout Insert enrollment triggers screenshot here

Prerequisites

  • Hublead active (Pro, Business or Scale)
  • Hublead properties enabled in HubSpot (including Last LinkedIn Invitation Accepted)
  • Access to HubSpot Workflows
  • Access to Sequences (Sales Hub)

Step‑by‑step

Step 1: (Optional) prevent duplicates

Create a contact property:

  • Name: LinkedIn invitation sequence triggered
  • Type: Checkbox (or Date if you want to log the date)

Step 2: Create the workflow (contact‑based)

HubSpot → Automation → Workflows → Create workflow → From scratch → Contact‑based.

Step 3: Enrollment triggers

Add these criteria:

  • Last LinkedIn Invitation Accepted is known (or “has been updated” depending on your portal)
  • AND (optional) LinkedIn invitation sequence triggered is not true

Step 4: Re‑enrollment (recommended)

Enable re‑enrollment on Last LinkedIn Invitation Accepted so the workflow runs again whenever the property is updated.

Step 5: Action “Enroll in sequence”

Add the Enroll in sequence action:

  • Choose the sequence you want to trigger (e.g. a nurture or follow‑up sequence)
  • Assigned to: Contact owner (or a specific owner if needed)
  • Make sure “Send sequence emails as the contact owner” is selected if that fits your sales process

Step 6: Mark the contact as handled (optional)

Action: Set property value

  • LinkedIn invitation sequence triggered = true (or today’s date)

Step 7: Test and publish

Test on a couple of contacts by having them accept your LinkedIn invitation, verify sequence enrolment, then publish the workflow.

Best practices

  • Test the workflow on a few contacts before rolling out to all prospects.
  • Customise your sequence emails to match the tone of a LinkedIn conversation.
  • Monitor sequence performance metrics (open rate, reply rate) and adjust as needed.

Does this trigger for every LinkedIn invitation acceptance?

Yes. Each time the "Last LinkedIn Invitation Accepted" property is updated, the workflow can enroll the contact if re-enrollment is enabled.

Can a contact enter the sequence more than once?

Yes, if re-enrollment is enabled. Use an additional property if you want to limit it to one time only.

Does this work without Hublead?

No. Hublead is required to sync LinkedIn invitation acceptance data into HubSpot.

Which HubSpot plan is required?

You need access to Workflows and Sequences, typically via Sales Hub and Automation features.

Who sends the sequence emails?

By default, emails are sent from the contact owner, assuming the option is enabled in the sequence action.

Can I trigger a different sequence per team or owner?

Yes. You can duplicate the workflow or add branching logic based on owner, lifecycle stage, or other properties.
