Trigger HubSpot sequences and nurtures from LinkedIn engagement
Automatically trigger HubSpot sequences and nurtures from LinkedIn replies and accepted invites using Hublead.

Problem
Can I enroll people into HubSpot sequences or nurtures when they engage on LinkedIn?
What is actually possible (important)
HubSpot cannot natively read LinkedIn activity.
To make this work, you need a tool like Hublead that syncs LinkedIn actions into HubSpot contact properties.
Also important:
- Automatic enrollment into sequences from workflows requires Sales Hub Enterprise.
- With Sales Hub Pro, this is only possible via the API. This playbook focuses on Sales Hub Enterprise.
Prerequisites
HubSpot
- Sales Hub Enterprise for workflow-based sequence enrollment
- Marketing Hub (optional) if you want marketing nurtures
- Ability to:
- Create custom contact properties
- Create workflows
LinkedIn and Hublead
- LinkedIn or Sales Navigator
- Hublead (or similar) to sync:
- LinkedIn replies
- LinkedIn connection accepted events
1. Define what counts as LinkedIn engagement
Use only signals you can truly control:
High intent
- Replied to a LinkedIn message
- Accepted a connection request
Medium intent (optional)
- Visited key pages on your website
- Opened or clicked HubSpot emails
2. Create or reuse the required HubSpot properties
In Settings → Properties, make sure you have:
Last LinkedIn reply date(Date picker)LinkedIn connection accepted date(Date picker)- Optional:
LinkedIn engagement level(Dropdown: None, Low, Medium, High)
3. Sync LinkedIn engagement into HubSpot with Hublead
Configure Hublead to:
- Update
Last LinkedIn reply datewhen a reply is detected - Update
LinkedIn connection accepted datewhen an invite is accepted - Optionally update:
LinkedIn engagement levelto Medium or High
This is the trigger layer of the system.
4. Create your “Engaged on LinkedIn” active list (optional but recommended)
In Lists, create an active list:
Criteria example:
Last LinkedIn reply dateis less than 14 days ago
ORLinkedIn connection accepted dateis less than 14 days ago- AND Email is known
- AND Not unsubscribed
This list will feed your workflows.
5. Build the nurture or sales automation workflow
Go to: Automation → Workflows → Create workflow → Contact-based
Enrollment trigger
- Either:
- Member of the “Engaged on LinkedIn” list
- Or:
Last LinkedIn reply dateis less than X days ago- OR
LinkedIn connection accepted dateis less than X days ago
6. Choose what happens next
Option A: Marketing nurture (Marketing Hub)
Actions:
- Send a personalized follow-up email
- Enroll in a nurture workflow
- Update lifecycle stage to MQL
- Create a task for a rep
Option B: Sales sequence (Sales Hub Enterprise)
Actions:
- Enroll in a HubSpot sequence directly from the workflow
- Assign owner if needed
- Create a task or notification
Important:
- This only works natively with Sales Hub Enterprise.
7. Add safety rules
Always add conditions like:
- Do not enroll if already in a sequence
- Do not enroll if lifecycle stage is Customer
- Do not enroll if contact is unsubscribed
This avoids spam and bad automation.
8. Monitor performance
Track:
- How many contacts enter from LinkedIn engagement
- Reply rates in sequences
- Conversion to meetings and opportunities
What you should NOT try to do
- Trigger this from profile views
- Trigger this from post views
- Trigger this from generic LinkedIn activity
You cannot get this data reliably into HubSpot.
Result
You get:
- A fully automated bridge between LinkedIn engagement and HubSpot actions
- Automatic:
- Nurturing
- Sequence enrollment
- Task creation
- Routing to sales
- Based only on signals you truly control
FAQs
Does this work without Hublead?
No. HubSpot cannot read LinkedIn messages or connection events by itself. You need a tool like Hublead to sync these actions into HubSpot contact properties.
Do I really need Sales Hub Enterprise?
Yes if you want to automatically enroll contacts into sequences from workflows.
With Sales Hub Pro, this is only possible via the API. This playbook assumes Sales Hub Enterprise.
Can I still use this playbook with Sales Hub Pro?
Partially. You can:
- Create lists
- Create workflows
- Create tasks
- Send notifications
But you cannot auto-enroll into sequences without using the API.
What LinkedIn actions can trigger this?
Only actions you can reliably sync:
- LinkedIn message replies
- LinkedIn connection accepted
You cannot trigger this from:
- Profile views
- Post views
- Generic LinkedIn activity
How fast does the automation trigger?
Hublead updates properties when the rep uses LinkedIn. In practice, workflows trigger within minutes, which is fast enough for sales operations.
Can this spam people or re-enroll them multiple times?
Not if you add safety rules. You should always:
- Block enrollment if already in a sequence
- Block enrollment if lifecycle stage is Customer
- Block enrollment if unsubscribed
Should I use a list or direct property triggers?
Both work:
- Lists are cleaner and easier to debug
- Direct property triggers are simpler and faster to set up
Functionally, the result is the same.
Can I trigger marketing nurtures instead of sales sequences?
Yes. If you have Marketing Hub, you can:
- Enroll contacts in nurture workflows
- Send automated follow-up emails
- Combine this with sales actions.
Can I combine this with website and email activity?
Yes. LinkedIn engagement should be one signal among others like:
- Page views
- Form submissions
- Email engagement
Is this safe to run at scale?
Yes. Everything is based on HubSpot properties and workflows. It scales exactly like any other HubSpot automation.
What is the main benefit of this playbook?
You react instantly to LinkedIn engagement instead of relying on reps to remember to follow up. This increases reply rates, speed to contact, and conversion to meetings.
