LinkedIn Character Limits 2026: Invitation, InMail, Headline, Post (Counter)
The LinkedIn character limits that matter for outreach: 200 for an invitation note, 200 and 1,900 for an InMail, 220 for the headline, 3,000 for a post. Paste your text and count it live.
Count your text against the LinkedIn limit
Pick the field, paste the text. The count uses characters the way LinkedIn does: an emoji counts as one, or two for composed ones.

The limits, and which ones LinkedIn actually documents
Two of these come from LinkedIn Help, checked on September 19, 2026. The others are what the editor enforces; LinkedIn does not publish them.

The 200-character note, and the 3-per-month cap
Two things changed for outreach on free accounts. The note dropped from 300 to 200 characters, and free members can only attach a note to three invitations a month. Past that, invitations go out blank. For a rep sending 20 invitations a week, that makes Premium or Sales Navigator a practical requirement, not a nice-to-have.
What fits in 200 characters: one reason you are reaching out that is specific to them, and nothing else. No pitch, no link, no "I'd love to connect". The counter above turns red at 201.
InMail: 200 in the subject, 1,900 in the body
The subject is required and counts. Short subjects that name the reason ("Your post on churn at Acme") outperform generic ones. The 1,900-character body is more than you need: the InMails that get replies are usually under 500 characters, because the reader is on mobile and decides in the first two lines.
What none of these limits do: land in HubSpot
An invitation note, an InMail or a reply lives in LinkedIn. Unless something writes it to the CRM, the manager sees nothing and the sequence does not know a prospect replied. Hublead logs invitations, messages and replies as HubSpot activities as they happen, so the 200 characters you just counted show up on the contact timeline.

Frequently asked questions
How many characters can a LinkedIn connection request note have?
LinkedIn Help states "each message can be up to 200 characters" (page a563153, checked September 19, 2026). Free members can add a note to three connection requests per month; Premium members can personalize all of them. Many articles still say 300: that was the earlier limit.
What is the InMail character limit?
Up to 200 characters in the required subject line and up to 1,900 characters in the body, per LinkedIn Help (page a411986).
How long can a LinkedIn headline be?
The profile editor stops at 220 characters. LinkedIn does not publish this on a help page, so treat it as an editor limit that can change, and check the counter in the editor if a headline matters.
Where does a post get cut with "see more"?
The feed truncates a post after roughly 210 characters on desktop and 140 on mobile. This is an observed behaviour, not a documented rule, and it changes with LinkedIn's layout. The counter flags it as approximate.
